Yogyakarta along with Surakarta, is a direct descend kingdom (Sultanate) of Mataram Sultanate formed by Senopati of Mataram in 16th century. When it was torn apart by Gianti Treaty in 1755, all atributes that once attached to Mataram spread between the two Sultanates.
